This week it has been Mental Health Day 2020 and it has made me reflect on what has been a challenging year for us all with Covid-19 and the inevitable changes to working practices this has forced upon us.
I have had a voucher for the gorgeous Brightlife here on the Island in my drawer since the start of the year, and with Covid-19 disrupting my enjoyment of it, I made a point of booking a ‘muscle melt’ massage for tomorrow and I cannot wait to relax and enjoy this treat! I know the staff there have a fantastic relaxing atmosphere to enjoy and this will be just the ticket for me taking some time out to relax, to reflect on a very busy few months.
What do you do to relax? How do you ensure the pace of our busy lives doesn’t spill out into our pain systems and cause sensitisation and discomfort? Exercise is consistently known to reduce this sensitivity, as does stimulating the mechanoreceptors (pressure sensors) of your soft tissues (Cue Brightlife!), teasing more movement in our joints, releasing our natural pain relieving hormones and chemicals. Good sleep is also a key factor.
So, see what works for you…. Everyone needs a formula that works for them. Trying to develop a routine to keep you on track can make all the difference.
