Fitness Programme & Clinical Pilates

You may be recovering from illness, injury or surgery and keen to get fit again. Physiotherapists are exercise specialists for those starting from the beginning again and will help you safely reach a level of independent exercise. We can write a programme for you to start or work with your fitness professional or trainer to advise on specific and safe exercise for you.

What is Clinical Pilates?

Pilates, over the last 2-3 decades, has become increasingly popular for general exercise and fitness. Clinical Pilates is so much more than simply Pilates exercises in a clinical setting.

Our Physiotherapists apply the Clinical Pilates methodology, created by DMA founder and Director Craig Phillips, first to assess, and then to treat your problem. The result is an individualised exercise based treatment program, specific to your needs.

The Clinical Pilates assessment process involves identifying the directions of movement that aggravate and alleviate your problem, and looking at how smoothly (or not!) your body moves. The treatment process then involves getting you to work through specific exercises to facilitate better movement quality, and treat your problem. Your Physiotherapist will continue to assess and reassess your response to the treatment exercises to make sure you are progressing in the right direction.

How can Clinical Pilates help you?

  • Reduce pain and safely manage your injury
  • Correct poor mechanics that underlie injuries
  • Greater resistance to injury
  • Training your muscle groups to help your body to work safely and more efficiently
  • An overall feeling of  physical wellbeing, with improved posture, balance and motor control.

Come and try, and you will find that Clinical Pilates treatment is truly therapeutic exercise at its best!
